Elektro Hamptons takeover featuring Nervo & Norman Doray Review
Elektro took over East Quogue hotspot Neptunes over the weekend to showcase our latest issue and hook up with two of our favorite names in dance music. After launching our premiere issue in March during Miami Music Week, we at Elektro Magazine decided to bring our early-summer second issue to the beaches of the Hamptons and hook up with Nervo and Norman Doray’s joint US tour. And, without a doubt, Australian DJ/producer duo – and twin sisters – Mim and Liv Nervo came to party.
Miriam and Olivia, the multi-talented Australian bombshells, have taken the EDM world by storm. Collaborations with names such as Afrojack and Steve Aoki as well as songwriting credits for David Guetta and Armin Van Buuren tracks prove these two are not to be taken lightly. Their current tour mate, the French-born Norman Doray is also a musical force to be reckoned with; “Trilogy,” his recent collaboration with Laidback Luke and Arno Cost was incredibly well-received and “Tweet It,” an Elektro favorite, was a collab with none other than Avicii.
By the time Norman Doray hit the decks at around 3:15, the outdoor beach club was full and guests were ready to party. Using the afternoon sun and beach atmosphere as his muse, Doray laid out a less-than-typical funky set of tech house mixed with popular electro and big-room hits. He not only warmed up the crowd, but mixed like a true headliner.
Mim and Liv hit the decks later in the afternoon as the sun had already begun to drop in the sky. The duo immediately announced that the day was to be a special one – they’re filming a video for their new track with Norman Doray and the afternoon’s set was to be a part of it. This news had the crowd in a frenzy as the video crew dispatched and Olivia took to the decks while Mim grabbed mic for their chart-topping hit, “You’re Gonna Love Again.”
Throughout their set, the twins owned the crowd. Their own hits, such as “We’re All No One” (featuring Afrojack and Aoki) and “The Way We See The World,” had the crowd grooving and singing along. Weaving between their pop-heavy production, the Aussies dropped big-room favorites such as Swedish House Mafia’s festival anthem “Greyhound” and Deniz Koyu’s new banger “Bong.” A seminal moment was a fantastic bootleg of Sebastian Ingrosso/Alesso’s “Calling” mixed with Avicii’s “Levels,” two well-worn festival tracks. At times the two had half the crowd on shoulders and dancing on rooftops, enjoying the great music and sunny, cloudless sky. Nervo left the stage with the same intensity with which they arrived, having the crowd sing along to Ken Loi’s famous bootleg of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and Eric Prydz’s “2Night.”
Don’t miss the Nervo Twins the next time they’re in your city if you’re in the mood for an upbeat and fun party. Olivia and Miriam serve up an incredibly delicious and well-rounded set that’s guaranteed to have you on your feet.
