Each year the Balearic island’s longest running club night Cream Ibiza recruits one of its high-profile DJ residents to mark the start of the season with a mix compilation, with the likes of Paul van Dyk and Sander van Doorn responsible for excellent efforts in the past. This year though, UK trance trio Above & Beyond have been selected to recreate the legendary vibe that can be enjoyed by clubbers every Thursday night at Amnesia Nightclub.

And this year’s Cream Ibiza is a cranking mix indeed. Proving just how adept they are at staying on the cutting-edge of the kind of pumping trance that works perfectly in massive clubs like Amnesia, Above & Beyond deliver a fast paced double-CD mix that sees them fusing their core trance sound with a broad range of influences from across the house and techno spectrum, in characteristic fashion, with a particular focus on those bottom-heavy grooves we’ve been enjoying in trance lately.

Californian newcomers Norin & Rad make a particularly smashing appearance across the two discs, showing why they’re one of the hottest tickets in trance on the planet at the moment, while other hot names like Arty, Mat Zo and Above & Beyond themselves also feature prominently.

If you’re after a mix that replicates the frenetic, fantastical energy of one of Ibiza’s most pumping club nights, Above & Beyond’s Cream Ibiza mix is about as good as it gets.
