Eric Prydz hypes up Identity Festival tour: “A lot of people know my music, but they’ve never seen me play”

The big news in EDM this week is the release of the massive Eric Prydz presents Pryda 3-CD set, but as ElektroDaily discovered when we jumped on the phone with the iconic Swede, he’s even more excited about his upcoming 15-date US tour as headliner of the IDentity Festival.

As Prydz revealed to Elektro Daily, it’ll actually be the third time in his career he’s visited the US for a tour. “We’re doing things a bit different this time though,” he says of his upcoming festival headlining slot. “I haven’t really done that before. The first tours I did were more club based, so it’s on a bigger scale this time around, and I’ve heard so much good stuff about the Identity Festival. I’m really excited to come over and play.”

Clearly though, the game has changed in the US considerably since his last visit, with clubbing now outranking hip-hop in terms of punter love. While Prydz is an EDM household name, this will represent his first opportunity to connect with US audiences on a massive scale.

“A lot of people know my music, but they’ve never seen me play,” Prydz told Elektro Daily. “I think a lot of music that is popular in the States at the moment sounds a little bit the same, all the DJs are playing the same tracks and they’re playing the same bootlegs… So for me it’s a challenge, but also it’s a fun thing for me, to come with something that’s a bit different.”

However, as Pryda fanatics will already know, it’s music that is custom-made for the big festivals. “I’m sure it’s going to work just as well for me there as it does in Europe.”

Eric Prydz presents Pryda is out now on iTunes and Beatport. Stay tuned for ElektroDaily’s full interview, and catch him on the Identity Festival in July and August.
