Bedrock Records debuts new ‘Collaborations’ mix series
John Digweed’s enduring record label has flexed some impressive muscle over the past few years, renewing its relevance to the underground house and techno scenes, and this week it released an intriguing project featuring US veteran Jimmy Van M and Germany’s Oliver Lieb. Collaborations sees the duo pooling their creative talents under The Audible Suspects banner, to turn out a heavily polished mix CD that also marks the launch of a new series for Bedrock.
Jimmy Van M has been a tireless supporter of EDM in North America since the mid ’90s, and the glory days of progressive house when Digweed ruled supreme at New York’s iconic Twilo nightclub. Oliver Lieb’s history as an elite producer stretches back just as far, and here they’ve delivered a deliciously deep mix that exhibits a huge amount of polish.
“Flow is very important,” Jimmy Van M says of the project. “Over the years we’ve become friends and I’ve always hoped for an opportunity to work together… When getting the music together for this compilation we quickly realized where it was going and took the direction of strong yet still simple tracks. We focused considerably on the sound quality of each track and the final mix mastering which you can tell by turning it up loud!”
Collaborations features several of their own classy productions, and the extra attention to detail in the studio comes across clear in a mix that focuses on moody progressive house and melodic techno, a deep affair that still locks you in with a rollicking groove.
Collaborations is out now on Beatport and Bedrock Music, listen to a preview minimix here:
