When Beatport announced its remix contest for Zedd’s “Spectrum,” our first reaction was a skeptical one: it’s hard to imagine any rework of the track, no matter how good, competing with the original version’s nuanced blend of soul and synth. While we wait for the results of that contest – whose deadline was extended due to the overwhelming number of entries – some of the biggest DJs in the game are slowly rolling out their own “Spectrum” remixes. First, we heard Armin Van Buuren’s remix, which had a slightly lighter touch than the original; next up is Arty’s trance-influenced version, which dropped on YouTube today. The “Spectrum” remix EP, including not only Arty and Armin’s versions but the Beatport winner’s as well, is due out on July 31st.
